Former GlaxoSmithKline chief executive Jean-Pierre Garnier is returning to the sector, following his appointment as general manager of France's health and personal care company Pierre Fabre.
Contract research services company Ricerca Biosciences has named Gary Jacobson as executive vice president and chief financial officer. In addition to his financial responsibilities, he will be accountable for Ricerca’s legal, human resources, facilities and IT functions.
Pharmaceutical industry veteran Tim Tyson has been appointed executive chairman and acting CEO of US contract research organisation Aptuit, replacing Michael Griffith, the company’s founder and CEO since 2005. The company said Griffith resigned to pursue other opportunities.
China’s WuXi PharmaTech has promoted Dr Rujian Ma to the post of vice president of synthetic chemistry.
RadPharm has named Steven Owens to the newly created position of chief information officer.
Stephen Smith has joined US Oncology as vice president and general manager of its Research and Personalized Science Services unit. Smith will oversee the company’s US Oncology Research Network, which provides research management services to oncology practices and sites.
Asterand, a UK-based provider of human tissue and services for drug discovery research, has appointed Jonathan Fleming as a non-executive director. Fleming is currently Managing Partner of Oxford Bioscience Partners of Boston, US. Also David Jones has stepped down from the board.
MDS Pharma Services has hired Dr Ross Tonkens as vice president, medical affairs. In the role Tonkens will provide medical oversight for its Phase IIa clinical research activities and to direct the medical and clinical activities of its Development & Regulatory Services line of business.
Contract research organisation BioReliance has appointed James Kramer as the newly-created post of vice president of global biologics operations.
Anastasios Karagiozidis joins BASF IT Services as sales director. His task will consist in further expanding business with customers outside of the BASF Group. Internal sales within BASF represent a major proportion of BASF IT Services turnover.
Contract sales organisation SciSource has added Joseph Connell to its management team. Connell is the president and CEO of Connell Associates and serves as a director of Cassia Acquisition Corporation.
ExecuPharm has appointed Lauri Sirabella to the position of vice president, clinical strategic business development. In her new role, Sirabella will focus on developing strategic opportunities to further expand ExecuPharm’s position as a leader in pharmaceutical and biotechnology staffing and outsourcing.

INC Research named Warren Prosser as its vice president, clinical operations for global neurology. Prosser will lead INC Research’s neurology teams on Phase I-III trials, and provide strategic and developmental consultation to pharmaceutical customers within its central nervous system (CNS) division.
