INC Research has bought its second Pennsylvania, US-based contract research organisation (CRO) in six months.

North Carolina-based INC Research said the new purchase, Advanced Biologics, will be used to strengthen its infectious disease operations as this is Advanced Biologics' area of expertise.

The full-service CRO also has experience in Phase I-IV studies for drugs being developed for cancer, neurological diseases, urologic conditions and women's health.

Advanced Biologics' facility will now also serve as an operations hub for its new owner, who following this purchase, now has seven locations North America.

INC has been going through a period of expansion over the past year, moving into new US headquarters in Raleigh, North Carolina, and also broadening its postmarketing contract research capabilities with the purchase of another CRO in Philadelphia, in late September, Pharmaceutical Resource Corporation.

In addition, the CRO recently opened a new office in Zurich, Switzerland, and said the new site will "serve as an additional base of clinical operations in Europe and allow for substantial future expansion in the region going forward."

The new location will also focus particularly on the company's oncology, infectious disease and paediatrics business units.

The growing company has also recently opened new offices in France, Russia and the Ukraine.
