Collecting data from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) the Battelle / Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO) State Bioscience Initiatives report gives an insight into clinical trial hotspots in the United States.
This is visualised below in the form of an interactive map, with the darker areas indicating states where high numbers of clinical trials were initiated in 2009.
In Puerto Rico and the District of Colombia there were respectively 72 and 184 trials initiated in 2009 but these are not shown on the map. A spreadsheet of the number of trials initiated in each state is available here .
