While CROs are “reaping the benefits” of the pharmaceutical industry’s efforts to save money, certain types of clinical research are being farmed out more often than others, according to a news report by Cutting Edge Information.

CEI’s research suggests that although 58 per cent of pharma firms outsource all aspects of clinical development, by far the most commonly called upon service is data management, which 68 per cent of respondents said they handed over to third parties.

In contrast, the majority of pharma and biotech companies that took part in the survey chose to keep clinical trial supply management and medical writing functions in-house.
