DHL consolidates Sanofi's Brazilian distribution network
The French pharma giant selected DHL Supply Chain – the contract logistics unit of Deutsche Post DHL Group – to establish the centre in Guarulhos, São Paulo in 2014 to bring together the distribution networks of Sanofi and its subsidiaries Sanofi Pasteur and Medley in Brazil.
“The objective of this project was to simplify and enhance Sanofi's storage operations and distribution network in Brazil. Consolidating these operations into a single distribution centre has enabled us to foster synergies and streamline the entire process,” said Javier Bilbao, CEO of DHL Supply Chain in Brazil.
The firm added that the work allows greater efficiency across Sanofi and Medley and made sense as they share about 70% of their customers.
The 36,000m2 Guarulhos site offers fully air-conditioned storage area and almost 50,000 pallet positions.
Technologies and best practices utilised the distribution and storage of pharmaceuticals and has reduced operating costs by 30%, according to the company.
“Sanofi's order software, which adjusts and distributes the orders in closed boxes to their end customers, reduced the amount of packaging damage incidents by 35 percent,” DHL said, as an example.
The new site is part of Sanofi’s redesign of its Brazilian distribution practices, which is set to see investments totalling €200m ($212m) between 2015 and 2020.
