MD adds west coast pharma logistics at Reno, NV site

MD Logistics has opened a 55,000 sq ft logistics facility in Nevada to expand its pharma distribution services to the west coast.

Opening the facility in Reno expands MD Logistics’ capabilities beyond its Plainfield, Indiana base and allows it to target the west coast of the US. Adding the Reno site puts MD Logistics’ facilities within a 24 hour drive of 80 per cent of the US population, the company claims.

“MD Logistics’ new state of the art Reno distribution site will allow us to continue to improve our supply chain execution, by providing improved efficiencies for the expanding west coast customer base”, Mark Sell, president of MD Logistics, said in a press statement.

The Reno site is operational and is US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) registered, Emilie Gerbers, marketing coordinator at MD Logistics, told Outsourcing-Pharma. As work at the Reno site ramps up over the next six to 12 months, MD Logistics will hire around 20 people to work at the facility.

Growing operations

MD Logistics has relocated key managers to get the facility up to speed as clients are added. “At this time we have three key customers moving products to our Reno facility”, Gerbers said. All the current clients are pharmaceutical companies but the site will also handle distribution of retail goods.

Even when the site is fully operational MD Logistics expects demand to be lower than at the Indiana facility. “Due to demographics and population, we don’t expect Reno to reach the same capacity level as Indiana”, Gerbers said.

However, the site could be expanded if there is enough demand. “We are always prepared to expand to meet customer demands”, Gerbers said. In 2008 MD Logistics began expanding its operation in Indiana with the addition of 15,000 sq ft of cold storage for pharmaceutical clients.
