Contract manufacturing worth $299bn by 2014, BCC Research

The global pharmaceutical contract manufacturing sector is growing at 11 per cent a year and will generate $299bn (€209bn) by 2014, says BCC Research.

According to the new report, “Contract pharmaceuticals, manufacturing, research and packaging,” the industry generated $177bn this year, with contract bulk ingredients and dosage form production contributing some $44bn and expected to reach $73bn in four years time.

The global contract packaging, the smallest segment according to the survey, was worth $5.5bn in 2009 and is expected to grow at a rate of around 8 per cent a year to reach a value of $8.1bn in 2014.
