While contract manufacturing organisations (CMO) will see demand fall short-term, ultimately, the global downturn will benefit the India’s pharmaceutical industry, says BMI.

Business Monitor International’s (BMI) “India Pharmaceuticals and Healthcare Report,” published last Thursday, predicts that over the next five years the Indian drug market will grow at a rate of 5.8 per cent a year.

The authors argue that global economic woes will force governments worldwide to look at ways of controlling healthcare spending and suggest that India’s plentiful supply of cheap drugs represent a significant cost-saving opportunity.
