Vetter will close one facility and migrate staff to the now open €100m expansion center for aseptic packaging of injectables at its headquarters in Ravensburg, Germany.

Vetter Pharma International GmbH will move around 800 employees from the soon-to-be relinquished Holbeinstrasse site to the new center – Ravensburg Vetter West – by the end of 2017.

The new build expands Vetter’s Visual Inspection and Logics Center with an additional 50,000 sq meters of space and a warehouse for cold and room temperature storage of products.

The build, which was initiated five years ago, is part of €300m plan to expand and improve the CDMO’s infrastructural asset, with the firm’s recently acquired US and German sites.

“Concentrating our supply chain processes in one site enables bundled resources for even more efficient and highly-secured logistic and quality control procedures,” said Vetter Managing Director Thomas Otto.

Automation and Digitisation

Vetter emphasised the importance of digitisation in improving efficiency of its contract services, previously telling Outsourcing-Pharma it was a “megatrend” in the Pharma industry.

Therefore, the new build has also improved its cold storage fill with more frequent visual inspections, which Vetter added can be either automated or manual.

A support materials warehouse also includes new safety installations and a packaging-check laboratory, to work alongside the site’s data processing center which was completed last January.

Otto added “requirements regarding final product inspection as well as transportation and storage of (bio-)pharmaceutical materials are ever-increasing.”

The departmental migration to the new center is set to be complete by the end of 2017.
