Piramal will use the Regional Growth Fund (RGF) grant to create new roles at its UK plant.

The contract development and manufacturing company (CDMO) says the move will help accelerate its five year growth plan for the active pharmaceutical ingredients (API) and packaged products site, based in Morpeth.

Site Lead Jarrett Palmer said: “The grant will enable us to invest in new capabilities which will enable us to enter new markets worldwide.”

In total, the investment will create 46 new jobs for Piramal.

The news comes as the RGF – a £1.4bn fund operating across England from 2011 to 2014 – approved a £17m package which will safeguard or create 180 new jobs within the UK pharmaceutical industry.

Other companies to benefit from the scheme include Aesica Pharmaceuticals at Cramlington, Precision Hydraulic Cylinders also at Cramlington, Rettig at Team Valley and Shasun Pharma Solutions at Dudley.
