US CRO PRA International has opened a new office in South Korea, further extending its presence in Asia.

PRA has provided clinical trial services in South Korea since 2005 through a series of partnership deals and collaborations with local contract research organisations (CRO).

However, according to regional senior director of clinical operations Edward Ian, PRA decided to establish its own office in response to "increasing customer expectations and project needs."

PRA went on to say that South Korea is widely regarded as the one of the top centres for clinical trials in the region behind India, China and Japan.

The firm also said that the South Korean government's formation of KoNECT, a national enterprise network for clinical trials, further demonstrates the country's committment to the sector.
