Halozyme taps BioAtla for synthesis and screening

20-Jan-2010

Related topics: Preclinical Research

BioAtla will provide gene synthesis and high throughput expression screening to Halozyme Therapeutics as part of a research agreement targeting conditionally active biologics (CAB).

Halozyme believes CABs which interact with their targets under specific, predefined conditions in the body could be safer and more effective treatments.

To generate drug candidates Halozyme has entered into a research deal with BioAtla, which will be involved in the library generation and screening of protein analogs with evolved specificity and activity.

The deal has an initial three-year term with Halozyme receiving the exclusive rights to CABs that are produced. Basic research on the first compound is predicted to start in the second half of 2010. Financial details have not been disclosed.
