SGS has increased its extractables and leachables (E&L) testing capabilities at its Shanghai, China-based laboratory.

The analytical and bioanalytical contract solutions provider has installed several analytical instruments, including an isothermal static headspace gas chromatograph with flame ionization detector (HS-GC/MS-FID) and two liquid chromatography-mass spectrometers (LC-MS).

According to the company, it has also acquired a liquid chromatography with time of flight mass spectrometer (LC-TOF-MS) and two inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometers (ICP-MS) in addition to an inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometer (ICP-OES).

"SGS has seen an increase in demand for E&L testing services for package and container testing as well as for single-use systems. As a result we have invested significantly across our global network in equipment, capacity, and human resources to ensure that we can maintain our strong reputation for extractables and leachables testing expertise," Mark Rogers, SGS, vice president Life Sciences USA, told Outsourcing-Pharma.com.

The instruments have been installed and validated and are 21 CFR part 11 compliant.

The company’s global Center of Excellence for Extractable Studies and Impurities Profiling was opened in Wiesbaden, Germany in September 2016.

Additionally, in January of this year, SGS SA expanded its E&L testing services with new equipment and specialist analysts at its New Jersey facility in the US.
