SCM adds vial filling capacity

13-Mar-2012

UK CDMO SCM Pharma is expanding its vial filling capacity to keep up with new clinical trial supply and commercial manufacturing contracts.

SCM - which has invested £500,000 (€595,710) in an automated vial filler - said “demand for liquid and powder filling from new clients and existing clients with scale-up requirements,” citing BrePCO Pharma which contracted the production of trial batches of a candidate hypotension drug last month as driver .

The new equipment – which is due to be operational this summer – will be capable of commercial-scale production runs, however, the main focus will still be smaller specialist projects according to SCM.

Although the investment will be a step change in the CDMO’s current filling capabilities, it remains at a scale that will be of interest mainly to companies requiring products for clinical trials and the supply of licensed drugs needed in niche markets such as orphan drugs.”
