US CRO Toxikon will conduct early-phase studies of candidate cancer treatment Kevetrin in a deal with developer Cellceutix.
Under the contract, financial terms of which have not been disclosed, Toxikon will be responsible for the remaining preclinical development programme, specifically designed to prove that the drug is safe to enter clinical development.
Cellceutix’ CEO George Evans said: "This is a big step for Cellceutix and represents our last hurdle before asking the US ['Food and Drug Administration] FDA for permission to conduct Phase 1 human studies.”
Kevetrin is intended to treat cancers that have developed resistance to available treatments, including both lung and breast cancer.
