US Steris Corporation has extended operations in Europe with the announcement today that it has acquired Swiss provider of washing/decontamination systems Hamo Holding.

The move provides Steris with an established distribution channel to expand the marketing of its sterilisation and washing/decontamination products in Europe and Asia. Steris reports that the global demand for washing/decontamination systems is on the up thanks to an ageing population and the resulting increase in surgical procedures and demand for prescription drugs.

Les C. Vinney, president and CEO of Steris commented:"The addition of Hamo accelerates our international expansion efforts and provides Steris with a more significant presence in several key markets, an important part of our growth strategy."

Hansruedi Moser, Hamo's owner and managing director added:"The transition to a larger organisation represents a positive step in the evolution of Hamo as a successful provider of washing/decontamination solutions to its customers."
