CurTec of the Netherlands is set to launch onto the market the first model in a new range of total opening kegs for pharmaceutical packaging.

Developed in close co-operation with the pharmaceutical industry, the company worked on a new product to replace fibre drums and avoid contamination of the contents with fibre shred.

The new kegs are manufactured from high-quality food grade plastic - which, claims the company, is resistant to a large number of chemicals, and easily recycled or processed after use. In addition, it is a so-called clean material, which cannot contaminate thecontents, even if the keg is used as primary packaging.

Currently available from 17 to 75 litres, from June 2003 the range will expand to include a 110-litre version - 90, 100 and 120 litre are in the pipeline.

According to CurTec, a UN-X mark emblazoned on the new keg makes it suitable for the transportation of dangerous goods, adding that the keg is air and watertight and can be made tamper evident by using a Compact Seal.
