Porvair Sciences of the UK has launched MaxiLute, a new 48-well solid phase extraction (SPE) sample preparation microplate system.

The company claims that the design of the MaxiLute offers advantages to researchers working in drug development, food and environmental laboratories that use SPE cartridges to process large volumes of sample.

The MaxiLute can process up to 200ml of sample in one go, with a high level of precision and reproducibility, according to Porvair. Based upon a standard microplate format, the MaxiLute is compatible with most automated liquid handling and robotic devices.

Each well on the MaxiLute has an individual drain spout ensuring 100 per cent sample transfer and zero cross-over contamination. Put simple, says Porvair, it eliminates the mess associated with traditional manual SPE cartridge methods.

The product is constructed from a single piece of moulded high quality plastic so individual SPE cartridges do not have to be repeatedly plugged in and out.
