Entry level particle sizer from Malvern

Malvern Instruments of the UK has launched a new system that is
intended as an entry level product for companies needing to size
particles in dry powders, suspensions and emulsions.

The Mastersizer 2000E is an extension of Malvern's existing Mastersizer 2000 range, but is intended to provide a cost-effective solution for those users who do not immediately require the full Mastersizer 2000 specification, but who would like the option to upgrade as their needs develop, according to the company.

The system measures particle sizes from 0.1 microns to 1,000 microns, somewhat less than the 0.02-2000 micron range of its more expensive sibling, with no need for lens changes.

"The key to quality particle size measurement is the ability to present a well-dispersed sample to the instrument optics at an appropriate concentration with a minimum of sample bias," said Malvern. In order to meet this requirement, the Mastersizer 2000E user can choose from semi-automated sample dispersion units for both wet and dry sample analysis, it added.

Like the Mastersizer 2000, the new version has an SOP (standard operating procedure)-driven operation, and SOPs can be stored and used at a later date. They guide users through the entire measurement process, prompting the user to follow the correct measurement procedure with on-screen instructions.

The system is upgradeable to the MasterSizer 2000.
