New anhydrous lactose from Borculo Domo

Borculo Domo has extended its range of lactose products for
pharmaceutical applications with the launch of a new anhydrous
version.

Lactose is widely used as a filler or filler-binder in the manufacture of pharmaceutical tablets and capsules, and the anhydrous form is particularly used when direct compression tabletting is being used. The latter is characterised by superior dissolution and binding properties and is especially useful for moisture sensitive actives.

Borculo Domo said its new Lactopress Anhydrous 250 has binding properties that make production of tablets by direct compression more efficient. This enables pharmaceutical companies to save costs in their tabletting process, it added.

Anhydrous lactose is dried at high temperatures on a roller dryer. This production process results in a product that does not contain crystal water, and this is what makes it a suitable excipient for moisture sensitive formulations.

Borculo Domo said the new product will now be launched in more than 50 countries worldwide. The launch comes just a few months after the introduction of Lactopress Spraydried 250.
