'Swinging' mixer from Chemineer

Chemineer has launched a new mixer, called the Clean Sweep, which
features a new type of mixing action claimed to prevent
contamination and eliminate particle shedding from mechanical seals
or magnetic drive in-tank bearings.

Instead of the rotary motion used in most mixers on the market, the Clean Sweep uses a swinging motion, much like the sweeping action of a broom, explained Michael Brown, Chemineer application engineer. This makes it particularly useful for low-shear, high purity mixing applications, and it can also handle mixing at low-liquid levels.

The Clean Sweep provides a hermetically sealed environment - because there is no rotating shaft seal. It requires no baffles and features a US Food and Drug Administration/US Pharmacopeia Class VI elastomeric seal, which helps 'eliminate particle shedding and product contamination', according to Chemineer.

The mixer has a new impeller with specially shaped blades that provide mixing throughout the vessel, reaching right to the bottom of the tank, according to the company.

The design of the unit also makes it easier to clean, which also helps prevent contamination and makes maintenance less troublesome that with traditional magnetic drive in-tank bearings or mechanically sealed rotating mixers.

Chemineer will launch the Clean Sweep at next month's Interphex exhibition in New York, US.
