Germany-based drug packaging provider Gerresheimer has launched a
new closure system for tablet containers with a moisture-absorbing
system that it claims is unique in the market.

The new addition to the firm's Duma Twist-Off range caters for both solid and liquid pharmaceutical products, and includes a tamper-evident system.

According to the firm, the Twist-Off series represents the latest innovation in easy opening combined with a very tight sealing system.

Although safer, stronger and more user-friendly, it can be employed immediately because in all the components of the new generation the same material is used as before, the company said.

"With a new closure system for tablet containers in which both a desiccant and a tamper-evident closure are integrated, the Gerresheimer Group moves another step ahead," the firm said.

The firm also said that the Twist-Off series was produced entirely internally, stressing that even the previously outsourced desiccant is manufactured in the firm's own facility in its Danish plant in Vaerloese.

"Through production of all the components under one roof we exclude external influences as completely as possible - which above all means safety," said Burkhard Lingenberg, director of corporate marketing for the Gerresheimer Group.

"Complete production in a continuous process chain guarantees maximum safety as well as increased cost-efficiency."

In addition, the tamper-evident closure has been optimised and the safety rings have been reinforced with precisely placed break points which mean that erroneous tear-offs are practically impossible while at the same time opening becomes easier, according to the firm.

The increased stability not only facilitates opening by the patient but also optimises the running characteristics of the closures on the filling and fabrication equipment of the pharmaceutical industry.

In two sizes, this system closure design covers a wide spectrum of tablet containers and fits containers holding between 15 and 600 ml.
