Pharsight says software makes bioequivalence testing easy

Software provider Pharsight has launched an add-on for its
graphical drug modelling method to serve in bioequivalence testing,
promising to reduce test failure.

Pharsight's WinNonlin software allows users to place and connect objects representing study of the time course of substances and their relationship with an organism or system pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic elements through a graphical interface.

The In Vivo In Vitro Correlation (IVIVC) add-on software was recently launched that focuses on application of in vivo-in vitro correlations for use in formulation development, for example to see if a formulation behaves in the body the same way as in the test tube.

In addition, the add-on will assess bioequivalence testing e.g. to see if a generic drug is behaving the same as a brand name drug.

The company claims that "now you can use WinNonlin to speed formulation development and improve chances of success in bioequivalence studies."

According to documentation of the product, the toolkit includes a Levy plot, which allows the user to evaluate in vivo absorption versus in vitro dissolution data visually, as time-versus-time- plots at matched values for absorption and dissolution.

"The IVIVC toolkit provides unmatched power and flexibility for in-vivo correlation development within the familiar and user-friendly WinNonlin environment," said Dan Weiner, senior vice president for software products at Pharsight.

"The IVIVC toolkit augments WinNonlin's capabilities and increases its value for a whole new group of users working in formulation development, line extension, and generic drug development."

As well as providing software tailored to customer needs, Pharsight also offers strategic services for optimising clinical drug development.
