Consort Medical, previously Bespak, has promoted Jon Glenn to chief executive from finance director. Glenn will replace Mark Throdahl, who is leaving the company after six years. Glenn was appointed finance director in September last year and was previously the global head of finance at Celltech. Privately owned contract research organisation (CRO) Quintiles has announced the appointment of John Goodacre as the new executive vice president and general counsel. He has served with the firm since 1998 and his most current post before the promotion was as senior vice president for global risk management and quality assurance. Rival CRO Covance has also had a high-level change of management with the promotion of Wendel Barr to chief operating officer (COO), effective 1 January. He moves from his present post as president of early development for North America. The firm has also named another current employee, Mike Lehmann, as president of laboratories for North America. He has been serving the company as general manager of its Madison, Wisconsin preclinical laboratory until now. Meanwhile, its competitor PPD has recruited Philip Mathew, formerly associate medical director at Covance, to the position of director of strategic development, to lead the company's Phase II-IV operations and expansion in India. He will operate from a newly-established office in Mumbai and hunt for new clinical sites and business opportunities in the region. Finally, another CRO, Parexel, has appointed Charles Stevens as vice president and general manager of Health Policy and Strategic Reimbursement Services, to oversee the company's reimbursement service and patient assistance programs. "As the biopharmaceutical industry undergoes market changes impacted by health care reform, new regulations, and changes in the area of reimbursement, we are meeting those needs with expanded capabilities," said Kurt Brykman, president of Parexel Consulting and Medical Communications Services.
