Outsourcing 'instrumental' in healthcare

Outsourcing will be seen as being "instrumental" in the
eyes of healthcare and biopharma firms this year as the focus on
cost reduction continues to increase, according to a new report.

The outsourcing trend, which has already spread throughout the industry on many levels, is also set to intensify due to companies placing improved organisational effectiveness and increased globalisation high on their agendas. The usual suspects in Asia - India, China and Singapore - were singled out in the report as likely countries to benefit. Singapore was named as an especially "ideal" place for outsourcing because of its robust protection of intellectual property, and large investment into the biotech industry, in addition to a low cost base. The predictions were one of a number of 2008 industry forecasts made by independent research and advisory firm, Health Industry Insights, aimed at identifying the major trends expected to impact the health industry and transform business and technology.
