Cambrex fined for safety violations

After months of deliberations, a court in Iowa has opted to fine contract manufacturing company Cambrex $6,000 for safety violations after an explosion at its facility in Charles City.

Six employees were injured in the blast last October, which occurred in the plant's drying department. One worker was seriously burned and five others were treated for smoke inhalation.

In February, the Iowa Occupational Safety and Health Bureau determined there was insufficient training of employees and inadequate notification and documentation of possible hazards at the plant.
