PTI Packaging Systems chose this year's Interphex show to introduce its new unit dose, or "stick pack," production machine to the North American packaging sector.

Company general manager Jeffrey Crangle told in-PharmaTechnologist that the TM-50-6 station, which is made by Japan's Toyo Machine Manufacturing, uses a unique single film packaging material approach to fill and seal individual single dose drug packages.

He explained that although customers in the US and Canada are not yet particularly familiar to stick packs, this type of packaging is very much the norm in Japan where patients view it as a more straightforward way of taking individual drug dosages.

Crangle added that PTI, which is the distributor for the TM-50-6 machine, "is pleased to make Toyo's fully integrated line of packaging machinery, both particulate based and liquid, available to North American companies."
