Ampac Flexibles has expanded its range of Flexi-Free overwrap packaging with the launch of its child resistant product, which can be customised by the client to meet their needs.

Flexi-Free CR (child resistant) is aimed at single-dose and children’s medicines where a level of barrier, puncture and child resistance is needed to ensure that the product is protected prior to use and safely dispensed.

The thickness, stiffness and toughness of the overwrap can be changed to suit the client and varying levels of child resistance are also available. Further customisation is possible by using Ampac’s 10 colour printing capabilities.

Doug Andersen, market development manager, pharmaceutical and medical, said: “Ampac is excited about the numerous applications we see for these newly developed child resistant overwraps. All structures are ideal for high speed form, fill and seal packaging lines.

Our graphics capabilities, combined with our ability to develop specific CR attributes, offers our customers an excellent choice in barrier overwraps.”

The products are available with standard and enhanced levels of tear and puncture resistance and come with either notch or scissor opening.

By providing this level of customisation Ampac believes that clients can source a product that has the exact properties they need, is child resistant, senior friendly and easily processed.

The overwraps are produced using a solventless lamination technology that Ampac acquired in its purchase of Flexicon in 2005. Ampac claims the solventless process significantly improves energy efficiency.
