Cozzoli believes its new powder filling line, which is capable of depositing varying doses of antibiotics into differing sizes of vials, can help companies reduce the risk of contamination.

The line consists of multiple Cozzoli manufactured machines that used in conjunction offer a number of exclusive features to the user, according to the company.

Cozzoli claims the line can simplify powder testing by performing liquid media validation. Furthermore, filter purging waste is eliminated by an automatic cleaning operation.

The line also reduces the likelihood of contamination because it has a totally enclosed powder pathway from hopper through to vial. Risk of contamination is minimised further by not using scraper blades or particle-generating components.

In addition the fill volume can then be fine tuned while the operation is running and without the need for tools.

These functions are performed by a washing machine, steriliser, unscrambling table, powder filler, check weighing system, stoppering equipment and crimper from Cozzoli.

By combining this equipment the line can wash, sterilise and depyrogenate vials prior to filling them with antibiotics, closing with stoppers and crimp capping.

The line is capable of filling vials with between 250mg and 3g of antibiotic powder, with an accuracy of one per cent above or below the target. In addition the line can fill multiple or single doses.

Furthermore, the line uses a dual level hopper and agitator that Cozzoli claims improves accuracy and repeatability by ensuring a uniform level and density of material to the dosing chamber of each filling head.

Batch sizes range from 1,750 vials up to 33,000. The required output per hour is 9000 vials of ISO 10R with one shot dosing.
