NextPharma says new tablet filling line at German facility is part of development of site as centre of manufacturing and packaging excellence.

The UK-headquartered Contract manufacturing organisation (CMO) installed the 45 metre U-Form line, which comprises separate filling, labelling and sealing areas, at the plant in Gottingen in response to customer demand.

The line was specifically designed to handle a range of tablets and forms and sizes of bottle in a bid to maximise NextPharma’s potential customer base.

A company spokeswoman told Outsourcing-pharma that: "The line is operational now, installation took 4 months including revamping of all rooms," adding that it has an "annual average output capacity of approximately 20 million bottles."

"We built the line in response to major requests from customers and now we have a number of agreed long-term contracts for these products; we also want to be able to serve better the US market where the major part of dry solid forms is filled into bottles.

She also suggested that the new line would be particularly attractive to customers because "[it] is a high-performance line with the latest technology, we can provide our customers with a competitive advantage and offer them better prices by comparison to our competitors who do not have access to this high level technology.

This installation is part of an extensive programme of refurbishment undertaken at the plant in an effort to establish a European contract production and packaging hub which, CEO Bill Wedlake, described as a key priority for NextPharma.
