IPC wants to harmonize with USP standards

The Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission (IPC) wants to harmonize general chapters with global standards set by the Pharmacopoeial Discussion Group (PDG).

At a meeting with representatives from the United States Pharmacopoeia (USP) last week the IPC discussed plans to bring the counties pharmacopeia into line with those set out by the USP and its European and Japanese Pharmacopoeia counterparts.

And, while formal plans are yet to be published, the harmonization process will involve collaboration with the USP, which has agreed to provide a “sufficient quantity of Reference substance material required by IPC.”

The IPC also said it plans to follow reference chemical substance practices adopted in the US, specifically by including USP convention nomenclature in labelling.

The organisation, which published the sixth edition of the Indian Pharmacopoeia last month, invited the USP to the 13th Indian Drug Manufacturers Association (IDMA) Pharmaceutical Analysts Convention event in Mumbai next month.
