The departure of Patheon’s CEO and a number of promotions at Covance – People on the move

Outsourcing-Pharma presents its latest round up of movements in the pharma outsourcing sector, including the departure of Patheon’s CEO and a number of promotions at Covance.

Wes Wheeler​ has left his position as CEO and president of Patheon​. Peter Bigelow​, president of North American operations at Patheon, has been named interim CEO. A more detailed look at the departure and what it means for Patheon is available here​.

Covance​ has promoted: Rick Cimino ​to​executive vice president (EVP) and group president, clinical development; Deborah Tanner ​to EVP and​group president, R&D laboratories; and John Watson ​to corporate SVP, president, strategic partnering and chief commercial officer.

Jon Koch​, the former VP and general manager, discovery and translational sciences, has been promoted to replace Tanner as corporate VP and president, central laboratory services.

Finally, Lisa Uthgenannt​ has joined Covance as corporate VP of human resources. Uthgenannt joins from Johnson & Johnson, where she also served as VP of human resources, and worked at Centocor earlier in her career.

David Cooper​ has joined Penn Pharma​ as operations director. Cooper last worked in oral technologies at Zydis and also has experience in global manufacturing from time at Mylan Pharmaceuticals.

Unilabs YBS​ has named Mohammed Abrar​ as method development manager for LCMS/MS methods. Abrar joins from Covance where he worked as principal method development specialist.

Michael Pennington​ is the new chief technical officer at Peptides International​, giving him responsibility for research, production and quality control. Pennington joins Peptides from Bachem Bioscience.

Clinical Trials of America​ has appointed Kathy Hendricks​ as site manager of its new centre in Seattle, Washington, US. Hendricks will lead business development and oversee patient recruitment and relations.

Pam Tyler​, purchasing manager at DPT Laboratories​, has been elected to serve the executive committee of the board of directors at the Drug, Chemical and Associated Technologies Association (DCAT) for 2011.

Tyler, who has worked at DPT for more than 10 years, will serve DCAT as vice president of the contract formulation, fill, finish and packaging industry segment.

Advanced Clinical​ has named Mark Lanfear​ as VP, clinical operations. Lanfear has previously worked at Abbott Laboratories, i3 Statprobe, Pfizer, KV Pharmaceuticals, Hoffman-La Roche, and Kforce Clinical Research.

Vickie Conley​ has joined Alquest, a medical device contract research organisation (CRO), as senior project manager. In a 28-year career Conley has worked at companies including Medtronic and Guidant.
