FedEx launches liquid nitrogen-based cold shipment service
The CryoPort Express service uses liquid nitrogen dry vapour to achieve temperatures of -150 degrees Celsius bypassing, according to FedEX, the complexities of dry ice cold shipment technologies that are required to be classified as “dangerous goods.”
Carl Asmus, vice president of International Market Development for FedEx added that: “[The new service] also reduces environmental impact through the use of a recyclable container and liquid nitrogen, which evaporates harmlessly.”
The new services is a further indication the growth of the global drug industry is attracting the attention of leading logistics firm. In the last few months leading players like World Courier, UPS and BioStorage Technologies have sought to build their health care-focused shipment capabilities.
