Appointments at Savient, Avantor Performance Materials and CorePharma – People on the move

in-PharmaTechnologist presents its latest round up of movements in the pharma sector, including appointments at Savient, Avantor Performance Materials and CorePharma.

Delcath Systems​ has appointed Harold Mapes​ to the newly created position of executive vice president, global operations, giving him responsibility for manufacturing, logistics and supply chain. Mapes joins from AngioDynamics where he worked for 18 years.

Richard Crowley ​has been named as EVP of biopharmaceutical operations at Savient Pharmaceuticals​. The role gives Crowley responsibility for manufacturing, quality and other areas. Crowley held a similar position at ImClone before leaving for Savient.

Avantor Performance Materials​ has made hires to strengthen its biopharm business. Paul Smaltz​ has been promoted to EVP, giving him leadership of the global pharmaceuticals business and the Americas.

Sushil Mehta​ has also been appointed as EVP to lead the global laboratory/clinical business and manage the Southeast Asia region. Mehta joined Avantor in February 2011 when it acquired RFCL Limited in India.

CorePharma​ has named Vishal Gupta​ as VP, R&D (research and development). Before joining CorePharma Gupta was director, R&D at Coviden.

Claes Glassell​ has been recruited as CEO of CMC Biologics​. Glassell joined the CMC board in 2005 and has stepped down as CEO of Cerus to take the new role. Earlier in his career Glassell worked at Cambrex, Akzo Nobel and Berol Kemi AB.

Algeta ASA​ has hired Donald Coppen​ as business development director. Coppen joins from Biocompatibles International and has also worked at Lonza Biologics.

Sapan Shah​ has joined Armgo Pharma​ as CEO and member of the board of directors. Since 2002 Shah has served as CEO of Shionogi and has also worked as a consultant with McKinsey & Company.
