Outsourcing-Pharma presents an interactive map of cancer mortality in Latin America, showing the extent of deaths from preventable diseases.

Cancer is among the top three killers in Latin America and, because of underdeveloped healthcare in some countries, some of these deaths are preventable. For example, the cumulative risk for stomach cancer in Ecuador is 2.07, compared to 0.21 in the US.

To combat the diseases in the region the US National Cancer Institute and the Fogarty International Center set up the Office of Latin American Cancer Program Development (OLACPD).

In a strategy document outlining its plan the OLACPD said: “Interestingly, cancer incidence and mortality trends observed for Latin American populations resemble those observed in the US Hispanic population, where cancer is increasing.”

The map below can be filtered to show the cumulative risk of different cancer sites using the drop down menu.
