Outsourcing-Pharma brings you its weekly round-up of the latest appointments in the pharmaceutical industry – and this week we’re reporting from Interphex where exhibitors Covance and Aesica have introduced new faces. More new from Elsevier, ABPI and Althea. 

Covance ​announced a reshuffle in its finance team at this year’s Interphex inNew York.

The firm named Bill Klitgaard​ as new corporate senior VP and chief information officer. Formerly the firm’s CFO, Klitgaard replaces John Repko​, who is moving on to new pastures.

VP of global finance planning and analysis Alison Cornell​ will step up to become CFO.

"These executive appointments strengthen our finance and information technology organizations and highlight the depth of our management bench," said Joe Herring, Covance chairman & CEO. 

Aesica​ has named Emma Mickley​ as VP of corporate business development.

Previously, she was director of business development for the CMO (contract manufacturing organization.

The company says she will help support plans for investments and growth in the US CMO sector in a bid to provide “a single point of contact” ​across the drug development spectrum.

Mickley said: “This is an exciting time to be representing Aesica in North America. This region is a key strategic priority for us for the foreseeable future and we are 100 per cent committed to shaping and positioning our business to meet the needs of mid-size and emerging pharma in Canada and The States.”

Elsevier​ has hored Hajo Oltmanns​ as the new president of itsCPMResourceCenter – a clinical decision support service.

In his new role, Oltmanns will take charge of the creation of CPM International Consortium, a network of hospitals and health systems.

He is also responsible for the company’s new Order Sets, expected to launch in late 2012.

MD Jay Katzen said: "Hajo's experience and understanding of healthcare will help grow this business, empowering our customers to achieve measureable, sustainable success through the implementation of evidence-based CDS and professional practice expertise."

MSD UK MD Deepak Khanna​ has been named president of the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry (ABPI)​.

He said: “It is a real honour to be serving the UK pharmaceutical industry and I am excited to be starting my work as president and leading the ABPI for the year to come.”

He takes the role from GSK’s Simon Jose. Khanna added: "I would like to thank Simon Jose for his tireless work and for the great strides he has made to help modernise the ABPI, which I hope to build on."​ 

Kristin DeFife​ has joined Althea Technologies​ as director of biologics manufacturing.

Joining the team from her role as VP of Operations at PacificGMP, DeFife said: "I am excited to join Althea and have the opportunity to contribute my experience in biologics development and manufacturing operations to the company's continued growth and success.”

Also new to the company, Jack Wright​ will become VP of sales and marketing. He was formerly VP of business development for oral technologies at Catalent.

Wright added: "Althea's solid platform for biologic manufacturing, fill finish and Crystalomics technology are positioned perfectly for the vast amount of NBE's (New Biological Entities) and targeted therapeutic areas."
