WuXi calls theft of two client compounds an “isolated case”
WuXi PharmaTech has called the theft of two compounds by an employee an “isolated case” and said it is upping oversight.
The statement from WuXi comes after a former employee was convicted in China for stealing sample amounts of two patented chemicals the CRO (contract research organisation) produced for a client.
“We regret that one of our employees committed a crime on our premises. As in any company, there will always be the risk of damage caused by a determined criminal”, Ge Li, and CEO of WuXi, said. Li said WuXi has responded by intensifying training and conducting more unannounced inspections.
The conviction comes weeks after a former Sanofi chemist was sentenced to 18 months in prison for stealing trade secrets.
