DIA 2012: eClinical firms put integration on centre stage
eClinical integration was a hot topic at DIA this week with OmniComm, Datatrak and Merge Healthcare all showing updated systems.

OmniComm Systems is now offering a CTMS (clinical trial management system) as an integrated part of its EDC (electronic data capture) product. The move makes PharmaPros’ CTMS, a SaaS (software-as-a-service) tool focused on mid-sized firms, a bundled component of the OmniComm EDC suite.

We are extremely pleased that OmniComm is now bundling Dataflow Manager's unique study management capabilities with their TrialMaster EDC product. We've already seen the benefits within our shared customer base,” Brion Regan, head of strategic development at PharmaPros, said.

OmniComm clients can add the CTMS on as as-needed or per-trial basis. This flexibility, OmniComm says, will allow clients to quickly and cheaply scale up or down. The move also fits with the eClinical integration trend shown by the recent MyTrials update at Parexel and cross-selling at Medidata.

Datatrak used DIA to show a new interface for its unified eClinical platform, updates to its CTMS and a new logo. The CTMS updates add real-time data feeds, reports and imports that integrate with the revamped One system to allow users to access information through dashboards in any Datatrak tool.

The new interface is much more than a new look; it's equivalent to giving our customers a new clinical research platform. Datatrak is reclaiming its position as the technology leader in the eClinical marketplace,” Laurence Birch, CEO of Datatrak, said.

In the wake of DIA the eClinical business also introduced the Datatrak Accreditation Program. The move builds on Datatrak Connect by having the clinical and consulting services team offer further training and support to partners and enterprise users.

Merge Healthcare has introduced eClinical OS in another attempt provide a single interface for data capture, processing and reporting. The system aims to give users a single platform for building the trial, tracking inventory, capturing and archiving data, and a range of other clinical trial tasks.

Before, clients would have to use multiple systems for the capturing, processing and return of data for each study,” Zaher El-Assi, general manager, Merge eClinical, said. Using the OS firms will save time and money by cutting the need for system selection, installation and learning, El-Assi said.

Medpace Medical Device and Novella Clinical are among the early adopters of the system. Ryan Wilson, general manager for Medpace Medical Device, said: “With Merge eClinical OS, study start up is much faster because no programming experience is needed.”
