News from Sanofi, Bausch + Lomb and BASF – People on the move
We start this week with news from Sanofi who has announced it is opening a new commercial organisation to – according to the company - better align with its business priorities which will beigin operations from July 1 this year.
Global Commercial Operations Unit and Global Divisions & Strategic Commercial Development Unit will replace the former Global Operations.
Peter Guenter will take on the role of Executive Vice President at the Global Commercial Operations Unit. Guenter has been the Senior VP Europe since 2011 though has been with the French Big Pharma company since 1995.
And Guenter’s counterpart at Sanofi’s new Global Divisions & Strategic Commercial Development Unit will be Pascale Witz.
Witz worked for BD from 1991, joining GE Healthcare five years later, rising up to position of President & CEO of Medical Diagnostics which she currently holds.
Sanofi’s CEO Christopher Viehbacher said: “The appointment of these two new leaders will enable us to strengthen our growth platforms and ensure the success of our new products to deliver a sustainable future for our company.”

Next up it’s Bausch + Lomb, the eye-health company who has appointed Dr. Donald Gagliano as vice president, global development operations.
Gagliano who has had a medical and a military career spanning 30 years will lead the scientific review of global business development opportunities and strategic initiatives for the company’s Pharmaceuticals business.
“Dr. Gagliano brings to Bausch + Lomb a long record of distinctive accomplishment in the global eye health community,” said Dan Wechsler, executive vice president and president, Bausch + Lomb Global Pharmaceuticals.
Biopharma company Lycera Corp has announced Dr. Bruce Goldsmith has been appointed to be the new Chief Business Officer.
Goldsmith comes directly from Allos Therapeutics where he served as senior vice president corporate development, and has also had roles in various strategic marketing and business development positions with the Johnson & Johnson family of companies.
Lycera’s CEO Dr. Kathleen Metters said: “He brings a proven track record of driving corporate and product strategy, leading business development efforts and creating valuable external partnerships.”
And finally this week, BASF ‘The Chemical Company’ has announced that Kenneth Lane (left) will succeed Frank Bozich (right) as President of BASF’s Catalysts division.
Lane is currently Senior Vice President, Isocyanates Europe, located in Belgium and will be crossing the Atlantic to head the division based in New Jersey as of June 1.
