SCM Pharma: Derek Richards
Richards has been appointed to boost SCM Pharma’s North American profile and will head US sales from the East Coast as a business development manager.
Previously of Novartis, UCB Pharma and Schering Plough (now part of Merck & Co.), he moved from a position as sales director at Scottish CDMO Aptuit.
Dianne Sharp, MD, SCM Pharma, said the company had chosen to expand its US footprint after the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved it to make Varithena, a varicose vein treatment, for BTG.
“The minute we knew the FDA were due to inspect our clinical headquarters in Prudhoe, we recognised the need to strengthen our US presence as the approval will no doubt trigger more demand for our small scale clinical and contract manufacturing services in North America,” said Sharp.
Richards was chosen for his 20 years’ experience in sterile filling, she said.
