The Glasgow Coma Scale
Several neurological scales for assessing patients were created at the University of Glasgow.
The famous Glasgow Coma Scale, used by doctors to record a patient’s conscious state, was created in 1974 by Graham Teasdale and Bryan Jennett in Glasgow’s Institute of Neurological Sciences at the city’s Southern General Hospital.
A year later, Jennett and Michael Bond created the Glasgow Outcome Scale, for measuring recovery chances following brain damage. The 21st century gave rise to the Glasgow Anxiety Scale and the Glasgow Depression Scale.
