Pharmaceutical Product Development, LLC, (PPD) added two new hires to lead in the areas of neuroscience, pediatrics, and rare disease.
Stephen Peroutka, M.D., Ph.D. (image left) will now serve as vice president of global product development and therapeutic area head for neuroscience.
Peroutka told Outsourcing-Pharma.com his goal is to continue to expand the expertise and quality of the neuroscience team at PPD.
“Neuroscience is both one of the most active areas of clinical research as well as an area of medicine with multiple major unmet needs. PPD strives to improve and refine clinical trials in neuroscience,” he said.
Peroutka was previously the chief medical officer at Semnur Pharmaceuticals and chief medical officer and executive vice president of NeurogesX Inc.
Additionally, Horacio Plotkin, M.D., FAAP, (image right) has joined PPD as vice president of global product development in the pediatrics and rare diseases therapeutic area. He will also serve as medical lead for the Rare Disease and Pediatric Center of Excellence – the new center announced on Rare Disease Day earlier this year.
Plotkin told us “I am looking forward to working with the incredibly experienced and committed team of PPD’s Pediatric and Rare Diseases Center of Excellence to improve the life of children and people with orphan diseases.”
“I believe that through consulting and execution of clinical developing programs, PPD can make a big difference by providing unparalleled quality and qualified insight to sponsors to ultimately benefit the patient community,” he added.
Most recently, Plotkin was the global clinical development lead at Shire. Prior to holding several medical director positions, he practiced as a pediatrician for 20 years.
