A storm in Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania, US has forced Thermo Fisher Scientific’s clinical package and storage facility to close temporarily.

The site provides primary and secondary packaging services, pre-filled syringe assembly and labelling, and storage for pharmaceutical drug candidates used in clinical trials.

Thermo Fisher’s Ron O’Brien said no one was injured during the storm on Saturday July 1, adding that the Allentown site - managed by Thermo Fisher-owned Fisher Clinical Services - is secure.

“The Schantz Road facility is temporarily closed to allow time to assess the extent of the damage while contingency storage and production plans are put in place,” said O’Brien.

“The Nestle Way distribution facility in Allentown remains fully operational and we are able to ship clinical trial materials from this location,” he said.

Materials from the site are awaiting inspection in accordance with the firm’s Quality Management System. The firm is also waiting for receipt confirmation of disposition by Fisher Clinical Services’ clients.

O’Brien did not disclose when he expected the facility to reopen, nor how the firm plans to meet customer needs during the closure.
