Idifarma has bolstered its capsule filling capabilities at its manufacturing plant in Pamplona, Spain.

The Spanish contract development and manufacturing organisation (CDMO) has installed a Bosch GKF-702 filling machine with capacity to produce 42,000 capsules an hour at the site.

Idifarma said the technology strengthens its position as a producer of oral solid dosage forms, with a particular focus on niche and small batch pharmaceutical products.

Luis Oquiñena, general manager and co-founder of Idifarma, said: “The GKF-702’s modular design will help us to future proof our investment ensuring that we can add real value to our clients’ manufacturing and development projects over the coming years.

He added: “It is important for us to remain versatile and flexible, however, we will continue to focus on specialised low-volume and high potent pharmaceutical products which is a key differentiator for us.”

Idifarma announced its intention to introduce a contract capsule filling service in December.

The investment fits with the plan outlined when active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) manufacturer Suanfarma invested in Idifarma in September last year.

At the time director of business development Manuel Leal Sanchez told us “Our plan is to keep serving and growing our client base as we invest in other technologies for development and manufacturing.”
