To simplify the human biospecimens procurement process, the online marketplace for outsourced scientific services, Scientist.com, has teamed up with iSpecimen.

iSpecimen, a Lexington, MA-based company, developed the iSpecimen Marketplace, which allows researchers to search for human specimens online.

The company’s CEO, Christopher Ianelli, MD, PhD, told us the marketplace allows researchers to instantly search for and select human biospecimens for their studies.

As part of the agreement with Scientist.com, the online marketplaces will join forces to offer iSpecimen’s services, including biofluids, solid tissue, and viable cells, on Scientist.com.

The specimens are sourced from the company’s partner network of hospitals, labs, biorepositories, blood centers, and other healthcare institutions.

By partnering with Scientist.com, which brings a suite of scientific services to researchers across the globe, we tap into a ready audience of potential customers in search of high-quality, data-rich specimens,” Ianelli explained.

Additionally, because these customers have already contracted with Scientist.com, the “source to settle” process is handled through that pre-existing agreement, he said.

"Human biospecimens are increasingly being used in drug research, so working with suppliers like iSpecimen on an ongoing basis supports our biopharma clients by ensuring their researchers access these materials in a manner compliant with both internal and external policies," Matt McLoughlin, senior director of compliance at Scientist.com told us.
