The Medicines Company: Fred Eshelman
Fred Eshelman has been appointed non-executive chairman of The Medicines Company Board of Directors.
The Medicines Company focuses on serious infectious disease care, acute cardiovascular care and surgery and perioperative care in the Americas, Europe and the Middle East, and Asia Pacific regions.
“Fred brings a breadth of skills and experiences in our industry and has a proven track record of building and leading businesses that create significant value for customers and for shareholders,” said CEO Clive Meanwell.
Eshelman is a founder of contract pharmaceutical research organisation Pharmaceutical Product Development (PPD), and was founding chairman of drug development firm Furiex Pharmaceuticals.
He has also served as senior vice president, development and board of directors of the former Glaxo, Inc, and held positions at Beecham Laboratories and Boehringer Mannheim Pharmaceuticals.
Eshelman holds a Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of Cincinnati, a Bachelor of Science in pharmacy from UNC-Chapel Hill, and is a graduate of the Owner/President Management programme at Harvard Business School.
