DHL receives pharma certifications at 7 US-based air freight stations
DHL Global Forwarding is the air and ocean freight specialist within Deutsche Post DHL Group, the German postal service and international courier service company.
The Center of Excellence for Independent Validators in Pharmaceutical Logistics (CEIV Pharma) Standard encompasses several pharmaceutical standards and guidelines, including IATA Temperature Control Regulations (TCR), European Union Good Distribution Practices (EU GDP), World Health Organization Annex 5, and United States Pharmacopeia Standards.
According to DHL, the certification process began in 2016 and included independent audits by third parties and training courses for employees on site at the company’s stations in Chicago, Cincinnati, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Miami and San Juan, Puerto Rico.
David Goldberg, CEO, DHL Global Forwarding, US, told us earlier this year that the certification shows the company’s commitment to the life sciences and healthcare industry.
At 491,000 square feet, the Chicago facility is the largest free-standing DHL Global Forwarding building in the company’s global network and was the first to receive certification in the US.
The building, which was inaugurated in 2015, contains two temperature controlled chambers (+15° to +25°C and +2° to +8°C) to process pharmaceutical, biotech, and medical devices.
“As a company that complies with these important global baseline IATA CEIV standards, DHL Global Forwarding can ensure its pharmaceutical customers we are working alongside of the aviation industry to safeguard their products with the highest integrity,” David Bang, global head of DHL Temperature Management Solutions and CEO LifeConEx at DHL Global Forwarding explained in a press release.
