PPD has expanded its Middleton, WI-based GMP analytical laboratory, increasing its large molecule development capacity with space for more than 100 new employees.

“This expansion is part of our ongoing efforts to meet the growing needs of our biopharmaceutical clients for GMP testing of large molecule products,” said Jon Denissen, PhD, senior vice president, PPD Laboratories’ bioanalytical and GMP labs.

The new 32,000-square-foot GMP (good manufacturing practices) analytical laboratory supplements the company’s existing biologics capacity, according to the contract research organization (CRO).

“The expansion includes new laboratories for analytical testing and cell-based assays, as well as state-of-the-art instrumentation that enables PPD to provide a complete array of GMP testing capabilities for biologics,” Denissen told us.

The facility, which makes room for more than 100 new employees, has met GMP regulatory requirements and is currently supporting new client projects.

As part of the Middleton expansion, PPD is also renovating its existing cell lab the site. The expanded 5,900-square-foot lab will double the capacity for GMP cell-based assays and will support 70 cellular and molecular biology scientists after renovations are completed in mid-2018.

Denissen added: “The Middleton facility enables us to partner closely with our clients to deliver strong scientific and technical expertise across a broad range of highly customized services, which range from early clinical development through commercial release testing."
