Circuit Clinical partners with the University at Buffalo’s genomics and biorepository program to add personalized medicine capabilities to its service offering lineup.

The integrated research organization (IRO) Circuit Clinical has worked closely with the University at Buffalo (UB) since 2015 when the school first sponsored the company for the STARTUP-NY innovation program. This led to a 5-year $1.1m development grant from UB's Buffalo Institute for Genomics and Data Analytics the following year.

UB’s Center for Advanced Technology recently awarded Circuit Clinical two grants and is currently collaborating with the organization on a Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase II grant submission.

Dr. Irfan Khan, founder and CEO of Circuit Clinical said the most recent partnership, announced this month, is focused on leveraging UB's biospecimens storage, processing, and genetic sequencing capabilities with Circuit Clinical's engagement platform, TrialScout, and its corresponding clinical research network of approximately 1m patients.

“We envision that this public-private partnership will execute highly targeted biospecimens and patient-permissioned EMR [electronic medical record] data collection to create truly deep datasets that can be mined for big data insights over time,” he told us.

Khan added, “We believe that partnering to extend our capabilities in biobanking, genetics, and big data - all while running an effective clinical trial network and building a transformative patient engagement platform - have put Circuit Clinical in a unique position to disrupt personalized medicine.”
