PCI Pharma Services adds a third facility in San Diego as it continues to grow its west coast clinical operations.

The biopharmaceutical outsourcing services provider currently has eight global clinical locations across the US, EU, and the Asia-Pacific region. Through its existing sites, PCI is supporting clinical trials in 100 countries worldwide.

The additional site in San Diego will be a 38,000 square-foot facility less than a mile from PCI’s existing San Diego campus. The company said the new facility will serve as its main storage, logistics, and distribution center for its west coast operations as the company’s needs are projected to grow.

Mark Shepanski, executive director of operations and site lead for PCI San Diego, told us, “Our west coast clinical trial operations have grown in every area. We are seeing packaging and labeling growth, storage growth and growth for our distribution operations. The growth reflects the addition of new clients as well as the success of our current clients.”

Shepanski said the growth stems from its current clinical base as well as the progression and expansion of early-phase clinical studies moving into late-stage clinical trials.

Set to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2019, the new site will be equipped for cold chain requirements for shipping between 2-8°C, -20°C, and -80°C as well as expanded ultra-low freezer capabilities and cryogenic liquid nitrogen storage at -196°C.
